I’m a Jaycee because I care.
I admit that sounds totally hokey, but ultimately…it’s the
truth. Allow me to share a little of my “Jerry Maguire moment.”
I sometimes wonder, what is it that drives some of us not to be
content as passengers on the ship of life? We’ve gotta steer the
ship, or help row, or swab the decks…whatever, but we have to do
SOMETHING.
It’s almost like we’re allergic to the concept of “free time.”
If one thing drops off our schedules, we replace it with two new
things. We live by the motto “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” It can
be a pain to live life always at warp speed, but I recognized
years ago -- that’s just who I am. I’ve made my peace. J And
now, I look to spend my time doing things that improve our
world. I aim to be part of the solution.
I’m a Jaycee because I believe.
I believe that, in the very big scheme of things, nothing on
this crazy planet really matters. And yet I also believe that it
ALL matters. All the people we meet. Our experiences. The fact
that you’re here, now, reading my words.
Ghandi said, “it doesn’t matter what you
do, but it is vitally important that you do it.” I’m moved by
action, and the Salinas Jaycees are about action. Impact.
I’m a Jaycee because it helps me.
Personally, I’m inspired by many Jaycees I’ve met locally and
throughout the world. More than mere acquaintances, some have
become lifelong friends.
Many leaders in our community are former Jaycees. When you
become a Salinas Jaycee, you join that family.
There you have it…that’s why I’m a Jaycee!
